Today was pretty much the most amazing day here so far! Andy Byrd spoke in lecture and gave a very passionate, powerful talk about God's intense love for us. He talked about how many modern day Christians wander down one of two roads: one, apathy - where we turn mediocre and lukewarm in faith and just go through the motions and have a spiritual checklist (I can definitely relate to this). Two, rebellion - where we fill desires through "other lovers" such as drugs, alcohol, relationships, etc. Many Christians have fallen into having a list of things to accomplish in order to be a good Christian, and try to get God's love by gaining His approval. But we should be responding to obedience because of our love for Christ. Jesus came to earth to establish "normal" Christianity. Religiosity will melt away when we pursue the knowledge of God, of who He is, and when we rest in that. Ministry will come from a love for God, wanting to serve Him - not doing it as a religious duty. It just really hit me today that God loves me, even in my worst moment, He loves me the same no matter what I do. I am weak, but He died for me, and the relentless love of God pursues me everyday. He died to liberate me and set me free from struggle, and sin will be overcome when I gaze upon Christ. I want to get so addicted to the love of God that it will be enough to just have Him, even if I were alone with no one to influence, that He would be enough. Tonight was my first night of treasure hunting, where we go out into the community and pray for whoever God leads us to. First, we prayed and listened for any specifics God wanted to speak to us - the person's name, location, physical description, etc. That whole thing was new to me, and I didn't hear anything, but just learned from others and watched and listened. It was really cool afterwards to hear testimony after testimony of people who before they even left campus knew something specific about who they were supposed to talk to. Some people knew names of people they had never met. Most people are very open to talking and receiving prayer and even ask to pray for us. I'm excited for future treasure hunts, and really want to be open to hearing God's voice and starting up conversations with people. Pray that God would make me bold for Him and continue showing me His love!
You won't relent
Until You have it all
My heart is Yours
I'll set You as a seal upon my heart
As a seal upon my arm
For there is love that is as strong as death
Jealousy demanding as the grave
And many waters cannot quench this love
Come be the fire inside of me
Come be the flame upon my heart
