Hero of the Faith: Bong Sokheng

I have been on a journey through many nations where I have had the privilege and blessing of witnessing countless individuals walking in a Hebrews 11 lifestyle of faith, obedience, and perseverance. One such woman was a classmate in Cambodia who had leukemia. Her life expectancy went from 2 months to 2 years and in that time she committed to an intensive season of Biblical Studies in which she read the Bible at least 5 times in 9 months, and hand wrote hundreds of pages on what treasure she saw in the truth of the Bible. Though she was in pain much of the time and had to be carried up the many flights of stairs to get to the classroom at times, she took great delight and joy in doing her studies for the Lord because she grew in knowing Him more deeply through it. She would spend many late nights pouring over what we were learning. Not only did she complete those 9 months, but she also spent 3 more months learning to teach what she learned to others. She kept reading the Bible again and again even past SBS, even on her death bed, even when the print of small words were hard to read for so long, because she said, “this is what gives life.” She knew that it wasn’t about the text in the book, but about the Person that it leads to, who gives abundant life to those who ask, seek, and believe. Though all we could say to each other through the language barrier were a few words here and there, her example has shown me the treasure we have in God’s Word, because it leads us to seeing the beauty of Jesus, who is the solution to all of our pain and the bringer of great joy. This woman's lifestyle was one of love for God and others, and she showed me the beauty of God's faithfulness and wondrous miracles.
So proud of my Khmer classmates who are continuing to bless others in the nation of Cambodia - if you feel called to sow into some awesome kingdom work, you can do so here: http://uofnbattambang.com/donate/
