To Keep a Quiet Heart

I've just rediscovered the awesomeness of www.sermonindex.net - a website that has free sermons by people like A.W. Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, David Wilkerson, Jackie Pullinger, Corrie Ten Boom, and many more heroes of the faith. I was reminded by Elizabeth Elliot's sermon "I Keep a Quiet Heart" about the importance of trusting in God's presence, His sovereignty, and His love. We are to be an instrument of His peace.

Saint Francis would pray this prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

The words of this hymn put it beautifully...

Your voice has stilled the raging storms
The wind and waves bow down before
Your still small voice brings hope to all

Who wait on You, we'll wait for You
To lead us to the place where You'll restore our souls
And all our earthly strivings come to cease

Take from our souls the strain and stress
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Your peace
The beauty of Your peace

Bright skies will soon be overhead
We'll enter in to Heaven's rest
There'll be no death, there'll be no pain
The things of old will pass away
You'll lead us to the place where You'll restore our souls
And all our earthly strivings come to cease
