This week we had people from the Brazilian government come
and share about what they are doing to combat human trafficking in this area
and the situation here. A policeman also came to speak. It was encouraging to
hear from him because he is a man of God and a YWAMer (he did a DTS a while
ago). The police system here suffers from corruption, so to see a man of
integrity influencing that realm and standing for justice was amazing, to say
the least. We also learned about compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic
stress, which can occur for those who are exposed to the trauma of others and
who work in anti-trafficking. We learned about prevention and were given some
tools and ideas on presenting a workshop to give awareness about sex
trafficking. We also learned about codependency and the things that can draw
people into the sex industry and keep them there.
On Wednesday we went on outreach again to the slum area to
intercede in the house of prayer. On Friday night we went to the streets again
with Iris to worship and intercede. This weekend was the start of Carnival,
which goes until Thursday. There were many people out partying and drinking. I
stayed with part of the group on a street corner to worship and intercede,
while the other groups went out to give cookies to the girls and transvestites.
Some people stopped to listen, and some even joined in the worship. Even though
darkness was being celebrated, I know that the Spirit of God being released
through our praise was breaking down strongholds. I love going to dark places
and feeling the darkness leave as we invite God to come and reveal His love. We
speak to the dry bones: life and breath and hope.
Please keep Brazil in your prayers during this time of the
Carnival.
