The last 2 months have flown by in a whirlwind of studying through 11 books of the New Testament, reading through each one 5 times. Most of my time involves studying the Word, and depending on what book(s) we are going through in a week I spend anywhere from 35-60 hours in study. I have a 3 hour lecture class 3 days a week, and I help lead intercession once a week.
An opportunity opened up for me to teach English a couple nights a week at a university to level 7 students, which is an advanced class of about 15 high school students. I made it through my first week of teaching and really enjoy having this opportunity to get involved in the community (and get out the the classroom!). I will also begin teaching English weekly to the girls at restoration home. I am very excited to be able to connect with the ministry that I worked with previously in Cambodia! I enjoy attending their church service on Sundays and getting to meet the girls. The Lord is continually faithful to give me opportunities to be involved in the things that are on my heart!
It has been fun and challenging to learn the Khmer language. I try to learn a few new words and phrases each week, and practice what I learn as often as I can. There never cease to be miscommunications, however, and sometimes they are quite hilarious. The other evening I ordered a hamburger at a cafe, and that's literally what I got - a slice of ham on a burger! The waiter seemed a bit confused that a hamburger would have beef rather than ham!
While I was blessed to have already fully paid for my finances for SBS, I have many Khmer classmates who still need financial support in order to continue through SBS. These students are getting Bible training to be able to teach and train other people in Cambodia and make an eternal impact in their nation. If you would like to support them, here is a link where you can do so: http://uofnbattambang.com/donate/ (specify that your donation is for students in SBS). 2nd quarter fees are due in January.
